Blood test could warn of liver failure before it happens
NCT ID NCT06432582
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a blood test called hepatomiR to see if it can predict when people with chronic liver disease will develop serious complications like fluid buildup in the belly, bleeding from the esophagus, or confusion from liver failure. Researchers will follow 156 outpatients with advanced liver disease to find a cutoff score that signals high risk. The goal is to help doctors intervene earlier and prevent these life-threatening events.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
hepatomiR blood test
What this could lead to
If successful, this blood test could help doctors predict and prevent serious liver complications like fluid buildup or bleeding in people with chronic liver disease.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The test is already CE-certified, but the specific cut-off being studied may not improve prediction enough to change patient care.
