New embolization technique aims to quiet bleeding hemorrhoids without surgery

NCT ID NCT06106269

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a procedure called rectal artery embolization (RAE) to treat bleeding from internal hemorrhoids. Doctors use imaging to guide tiny particles into the blood vessels feeding the hemorrhoids, blocking blood flow to reduce bleeding. The trial enrolls 20 adults with grade II or III hemorrhoids who have not improved with diet or medication. Researchers will measure changes in bleeding severity and track any side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

rectal artery embolization (device procedure)

What this could lead to

If successful, this procedure could offer a less invasive option to control bleeding from internal hemorrhoids, potentially reducing the need for surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 20 participants. The procedure may not work for everyone, and risks include pain, infection, or bleeding.
