Heart age app trial tests digital nudge against cardiovascular disease

NCT ID NCT05827861

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed trial in Singapore tested whether telling people their 'heart age' and giving them a behavior-change app (HOPE-CVD) could lower their risk of heart disease. Over 1,100 adults aged 30-74 with at least a 5% risk were split into four groups, each receiving different levels of risk information and app support. The study measured changes in predicted heart risk, blood pressure, cholesterol, and healthy behaviors after six months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

HeartAge risk presentation and HOPE-CVD mobile app (behavioral interventions)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could provide a simple, scalable way to help people lower their heart disease risk using personalized risk communication and digital behavior support.

What could go wrong

The trial is completed but results are not yet published, so we don't know if it worked. It also excluded people needing medication, so findings may not apply to higher-risk groups.
