Summary
This study tested whether a sedative drug called dexmedetomidine could help protect the heart during and after major open-heart surgery. Researchers enrolled 224 patients undergoing this type of surgery to see if the drug reduced levels of a protein that signals heart muscle damage. The goal was to see if this common sedative could offer an extra layer of protection for the heart during the stressful event of surgery.
