MRI scans reveal hidden heart damage after surgery

NCT ID NCT04490785

Summary

This study aimed to better understand the heart muscle damage that can occur during open-heart surgery using a heart-lung machine. Researchers used detailed heart MRI scans and frequent blood tests to measure this damage in 38 patients who had aortic valve surgery. The goal was to see if the blood test results matched what the MRI scans showed, which could help doctors better predict patient recovery.
