Lung cancer drugs may stress the heart – new study investigates
NCT ID NCT07267247
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study followed 100 people with advanced EGFR-mutant lung cancer who were taking drugs called EGFR-TKIs (erlotinib, dacomitinib, afatinib, or osimertinib). The goal was to see how often these drugs cause heart problems, specifically a drop in the heart's pumping ability. Researchers measured heart function before and during treatment to track any changes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
EGFR-TKI drugs (erlotinib, dacomitinib, afatinib, osimertinib)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better monitor and prevent heart side effects in lung cancer patients taking these drugs.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center observational study, so results may not apply to all patients. It only measures heart function changes, not whether these changes cause symptoms or affect survival.
