New study tests nurse support to keep ex-prisoners out of ER

NCT ID NCT06794983

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether a short program with a nurse case manager helps people leaving prison attend more regular doctor visits instead of going to the emergency room. About 488 adults with substance use history and chronic health conditions will be split into two groups: one gets enhanced usual care, the other also gets regular calls with a nurse. Researchers will compare how many people in each group have a non-emergency clinic visit within 60 days of release.
