New cancer treatment strategy aims to reduce harsh side effects

NCT ID NCT01612351

Summary

This study tested whether a three-part treatment approach could reduce side effects and improve outcomes for people with head and neck cancer. Forty patients received chemotherapy first to shrink tumors, followed by minimally invasive surgery, and then radiation/chemotherapy tailored to their individual risk level after surgery. The goal was to see if this personalized, step-by-step approach was effective and easier to tolerate than standard treatments.
