First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether placing stroke patients in a head-down position (Trendelenburg) before a clot-removal procedure can improve their recovery. Researchers will enroll 210 adults with a severe stroke caused by a large blocked artery. The goal is to see if this simple positioning helps protect the brain while waiting for the procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

head-down body positioning (Trendelenburg at -20°)

What this could lead to

If it works, this simple head-down position before clot removal could help reduce brain damage and improve recovery after a severe stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The head-down position could also increase pressure in the brain or cause breathing problems in some people.
