Oxygen chamber may boost knee surgery recovery
NCT ID NCT06493851
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) can help people recover faster after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee surgery. Forty adults aged 18-45 who need ACL reconstruction will be randomly assigned to receive either 30 sessions of HBOT over 6 weeks or standard care. The main goal is to see if HBOT improves knee function and symptoms, measured by a standard knee score, over the following months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- hyperbaric oxygen therapy (device)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a way to recover faster and with better knee function after ACL surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 people. The treatment requires many sessions and may not work for everyone. There are also risks like ear or sinus pain from pressure changes.
