New study offers smokers who don't want to quit a surprising path to stopping

NCT ID NCT07199517

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving smokers who aren't interested in quitting a choice of less harmful nicotine products (like e-cigarettes or nicotine pouches) can help them reduce or stop smoking. About 472 adult smokers will be randomly assigned to try either a harm-reduction product or standard nicotine patches and lozenges for 4 weeks. Researchers will track their smoking behavior for 6 months to see if this approach leads to lasting change.
