Seeing your muscles work: biofeedback may boost hamstring training

NCT ID NCT07660926

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding visual feedback of muscle activity (EMG biofeedback) to hamstring exercises makes training more effective. Healthy, active adults aged 18–40 will complete a 5-week training program using a special device called the Hamshell. Half the participants train with real-time feedback on muscle activation, while the other half train without it. Researchers measure changes in muscle strength, activation, and flexibility to see if feedback leads to better results, with the goal of improving injury prevention methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

EMG-biofeedback training with the Hamshell device

What this could lead to

If effective, this approach could improve training methods to prevent hamstring injuries in athletes and active individuals.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study in healthy volunteers, so results may not apply to injured people or real-world sports settings. The feedback may not provide extra benefit over standard training.
