Which Anti-Ulcer drug works best for h. pylori? large trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07344506

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests three different anti-ulcer medications (Dexlansoprazole, Lansoprazole, and Vonoprazan) combined with two antibiotics (Levofloxacin and Amoxicillin) to see which works best for eradicating H. pylori infection. About 942 adults in Pakistan with H. pylori will take one of the three combinations for 14 days. The main goal is to see which treatment clears the infection most effectively, measured by a breath test four weeks after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Dexlansoprazole, Lansoprazole, or Vonoprazan combined with Levofloxacin and Amoxicillin

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify the most effective anti-ulcer drug combination for eradicating H. pylori in regions with high antibiotic resistance, potentially reducing stomach cancer risk.

What could go wrong

This is a phase 4 trial in a specific population (Pakistan), so results may not apply elsewhere. Antibiotic resistance could still limit effectiveness, and side effects from the drugs are possible.
