Gut Bacteria's hidden role in immune cell energy revealed in new study

NCT ID NCT07300553

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at how gut bacteria change the way immune cells use energy, which may be linked to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Researchers will test 45 people—healthy adults and those with IBD—using blood, urine, and stool samples. Healthy volunteers will take a short course of antibiotics to see how altering gut bacteria affects immune cell metabolism. All participants will also consume a special fiber to track how gut bacteria process it. The goal is to better understand the connection between gut health and immune function.
