New study uses ultrasound to peek at gut blood vessels in scleroderma patients

NCT ID NCT07171437

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 38 times

Summary

This study will use Doppler ultrasound to measure blood flow in the gut arteries of 74 people with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) and compare them to healthy volunteers. The goal is to see if changes in gut blood flow are linked to digestive symptoms and other organ problems. This is an observational study, meaning no treatment is given, but it may help doctors better understand the disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors better understand and detect gut blood vessel problems in scleroderma patients, potentially leading to earlier diagnosis or monitoring.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve symptoms, and the findings may not apply to all patients with scleroderma.
