Gut bugs linked to transplant complication risk
NCT ID NCT05186857
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how changes in gut bacteria and their byproducts after a stem cell transplant might influence the development of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a serious complication. Researchers will collect stool and blood samples from 88 transplant recipients and their donors at several time points. By analyzing these samples, they hope to find patterns that predict GVHD and overall survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict and prevent graft-versus-host disease by monitoring gut health, leading to better survival after transplant.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find a clear link, and results may not lead to immediate changes in patient care.
