New collagen patch could spare gum patients painful palate surgery
NCT ID NCT07613775
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special collagen matrix can replace tissue taken from the roof of the mouth to fix receding gums. Forty adults with at least two areas of gum recession will receive either the collagen matrix or a standard palate graft. The main goal is to see how much the gums improve over 12 months, with less pain and faster healing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Volume-stable xenogeneic collagen matrix (VCMX)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less painful option for gum recession surgery, avoiding the need to harvest tissue from the palate.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The collagen matrix may not work as well as the standard graft.
