Gum disease treatment: can a hyaluronic acid gel regrow bone as well as the standard?
NCT ID NCT07339605
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a hyaluronic acid gel can help regrow bone lost to severe gum disease, compared to the standard enamel matrix derivative gel or no gel at all. All treatments use a minimally invasive, non-surgical technique. Sixty adults with advanced periodontitis will be followed for one year to measure bone fill and patient satisfaction.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
hyaluronic acid gel and enamel matrix derivative
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a simpler, less invasive option for regenerating bone lost to gum disease, potentially reducing the need for surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and the benefits over standard care are still uncertain.
