Organic veggies for pregnant women: a green prescription to cut pesticides?
NCT ID NCT07234617
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving pregnant women a weekly basket of organic vegetables for two weeks reduces their exposure to pesticides compared to women who eat as usual. Researchers will measure pesticide levels in urine before and after the program. If successful, it could support expanding similar "green prescription" programs to protect more mothers and babies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
organic vegetables
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that providing organic vegetables to pregnant women lowers their pesticide levels, supporting wider rollouts of similar programs.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 210 participants over two weeks. Results may not apply broadly, and the intervention may not significantly reduce pesticide exposure.
