Nature walk beats treadmill for mental refreshment, study finds

NCT ID NCT07379164

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a 30-minute walk outdoors in a green space helps people recover from mental tiredness and stress better than a 30-minute walk on a treadmill indoors. 80 healthy young adults were split into two groups: one walked outside in nature, the other walked on a treadmill in a windowless room. Researchers measured mood, stress hormones, heart rate, attention, and how connected people felt to nature to see which environment was more restorative.
