Lupus drug may harm ovaries – could a hormone shot help?

NCT ID NCT05567198

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study surveys women under 40 with lupus who are starting cyclophosphamide, a drug that can damage ovaries and cause infertility. Some received an additional drug called GnRHa to protect their ovaries. Researchers will compare menstrual health and fertility between those who got GnRHa and those who did not, using questionnaires and medical records. The goal is to see if GnRHa really helps preserve ovarian function.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to preserve fertility in women with lupus who need cyclophosphamide.

What could go wrong

This is an observational survey, not a treatment trial. It cannot prove cause and effect, and results may not apply to all patients.
