New eye drops aim to halt keratoconus progression
NCT ID NCT07400952
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This Phase 2 trial tests whether GLK-221 eye drops can safely slow the progression of keratoconus, a condition that thins and bulges the cornea. About 100 adults with keratoconus will use the drops twice daily for several months. The main goal is to see if the drops reduce the steepening of the cornea compared to a placebo.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
GLK-221 ophthalmic solution (eye drops)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a non-surgical treatment to slow or stop the progression of keratoconus, potentially reducing the need for corneal transplants.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 100 participants, so results may not confirm effectiveness. The treatment may not slow the disease or could cause side effects like eye irritation.
