New prosthetic control strategy could give amputees a better grip on daily life
NCT ID NCT06539936
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a new myoelectric control strategy called Glide to the standard Direct Control method for upper limb prostheses. Seven adults with below-elbow amputations will use both systems over 24 weeks to see which offers better function, satisfaction, and ease of use. The goal is to determine if Glide helps users perform daily tasks more effectively.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Glide myoelectric prosthesis control strategy (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide amputees with a more intuitive and effective way to control their prosthetic hand, improving daily function and satisfaction.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-stage trial with only 7 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The new control strategy might not prove better than the standard approach.
