Glaucoma implant could replace daily eye drops
NCT ID NCT07075718
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a second-generation travoprost implant placed inside the eye to lower pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. About 610 participants will receive either the implant, timolol eye drops, a sham procedure, or placebo drops. The main goal is to see if the implant safely reduces eye pressure over three months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- travoprost implant
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this implant could offer a long-lasting way to lower eye pressure in glaucoma patients, reducing the need for daily eye drops.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-to-mid stage trial, so the implant may not work as well as hoped or could cause side effects like eye irritation or vision changes. It is also compared to standard drops, so benefits over current care are not guaranteed.
