Pedal to preserve sight: study tests if exercise slows glaucoma damage
NCT ID NCT05581498
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether a 12-week home exercise program (cycling and resistance training) can improve vision and quality of life in people with glaucoma. Researchers will measure changes in visual field sensitivity, eye blood flow, and oxygen use. The goal is to see if exercise might protect nerve cells in the eye from further damage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
exercise (cycling and resistance training)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that regular exercise helps protect vision and improve daily life for people with glaucoma.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 150 participants. Exercise may not produce meaningful changes in vision, and results may not apply to everyone with glaucoma.
