Gene-Guided dosing may tame dangerous fungal infections in blood cancer
NCT ID NCT06510699
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using a patient's genetic profile to dose the antifungal drug voriconazole can help more patients reach the right drug levels faster. It will enroll 104 children and adults with blood cancer who have a fungal infection. Participants are randomly assigned to either standard dosing or dosing guided by a genetic test and computer software. The goal is to see if personalized dosing improves treatment success and is practical for hospitals.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- voriconazole
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could make antifungal treatment safer and more effective for people with blood cancer, reducing side effects and improving outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small Phase 2 trial, so results may not apply to everyone. Genetic testing may not always lead to better dosing, and the approach may be too complex for routine use.
