Your DNA may determine how well Weight-Loss drugs work
NCT ID NCT07653412
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a person's genetic makeup can predict how much weight they will lose on the drugs semaglutide or tirzepatide. Researchers will follow 220 adults with obesity who are starting one of these medications for six months. By analyzing genetic risk scores and specific gene variants, the goal is to see if certain genetic profiles are linked to better or worse weight loss, which could one day help doctors tailor obesity treatment to each individual.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Semaglutide or Tirzepatide
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the most effective weight-loss drug for each person based on their genes, making treatment more personalized.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The genetic score may not reliably predict response in all patients.
