AI tutors in the classroom: a test of smarter learning
NCT ID NCT07762261
First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 4-week program using generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, can improve university students' academic success, learning efficiency, and critical thinking. About 100 students will be randomly assigned to either the AI-supported program or their usual studies. The program includes eight sessions covering topics like effective prompting and academic ethics. Researchers will measure changes in academic achievement and critical thinking to see if AI can enhance learning.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A 4-week educational program using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to support learning, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a new way to enhance university education, improving students' academic performance and critical thinking skills.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small (100 students) and short (4 weeks), so results may not apply broadly. AI tools could also lead to dependency or misuse, which the study measures.
