Doctors prescribe produce to fight diabetes
NCT ID NCT06107816
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving low-income adults with type 2 diabetes vouchers for fruits and vegetables helps them attend diabetes education classes and improve their diet and blood sugar control. 120 participants will be split into three groups: usual care, vouchers alone, or vouchers plus education. The goal is to see if this simple program can make healthy eating easier and lead to better diabetes management.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
fruit and vegetable prescriptions (vouchers for produce)
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could offer a simple, low-cost way to help people with diabetes eat healthier and better manage their blood sugar.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (120 people) testing a behavioral program, not a drug. Results may not apply broadly, and dietary changes alone may not significantly improve diabetes control.
