New drug aimed at stopping lung rejection in transplant patients
NCT ID NCT06948097
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a drug called fostamatinib in 30 adults who have developed donor-specific antibodies after a lung transplant. These antibodies can attack the new lung and raise the risk of death. Participants take fostamatinib or a placebo for 8 weeks, along with their usual care, to see if the drug is safe and tolerable. The goal is to find a way to prevent rejection and improve long-term survival.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to prevent lung transplant rejection and improve survival for patients with donor-specific antibodies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 30 people, focused on safety. It may not show benefit, and the drug could cause side effects.
