Diuretic boosts kidney stone cleanout in major trial

NCT ID NCT07336485

First seen Jan 16, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving a diuretic (furosemide) during a common kidney stone procedure helps remove tiny leftover fragments. 2000 adults with medium-sized stones (up to 30 mm) took part. Half received the diuretic during surgery, half got standard care. Four weeks later, CT scans checked for remaining stone pieces. The goal was to see if forced diuresis leads to a cleaner result and fewer repeat treatments.
