Foam vs gauze: which C-Section dressing heals scars better?

NCT ID NCT07482202

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compared two types of wound dressings—polyurethane foam and regular gauze—after cesarean delivery. 200 women were randomly assigned to one dressing type, and their scar appearance and infection rates were tracked for 6 months. The goal is to see if the foam dressing leads to better-looking scars and fewer infections.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Polyurethane foam dressing (Mepilex Border Flex)

What this could lead to

If foam dressings prove better, they could become a standard option to improve scar healing and satisfaction after C-sections.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-surgeon study with 200 Korean women, so results may not apply to all populations. The difference between dressings may be small or not clinically meaningful.
