First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study follows about 4,000 people who received a fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) — a procedure that transfers healthy gut bacteria from donors to patients. It aims to see how well FMT works over 3 months, 1 year, and 5 years for conditions like recurring C. difficile infection, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and even autism. Researchers will also track long-term safety and look for factors that predict who benefits most.
