Old drug, new trick: fluvoxamine may shield seniors from Post-Surgery delirium

NCT ID NCT06969287

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether fluvoxamine, an antidepressant, can reduce the risk of delirium (sudden confusion) in older adults after non-cardiac surgery. About 46 people having elective surgery will take the drug or a placebo. The goal is to see if this approach is practical for a larger trial and if it helps patients recover more smoothly.
