NCT ID NCT05939674

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving flumazenil, a drug that reverses the effects of remimazolam, helps elderly patients wake up faster after hip surgery. 24 patients over 65 will be randomly assigned to receive flumazenil or a placebo right after surgery. Researchers will measure how quickly they open their eyes and can be taken off the breathing tube.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
flumazenil
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that giving flumazenil routinely after remimazolam anesthesia helps elderly patients wake up faster after hip surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants. It may not find a clear benefit, and flumazenil can cause side effects like agitation or seizures.
