Liver surgery fluid debate: which approach wins?
NCT ID NCT05704387
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looked at two ways of giving fluids during major liver surgery: a restrictive approach that limits fluids, and an individualized approach guided by a computer system. The goal was to see which method leads to less blood loss, fewer complications, and better recovery. 90 adults having major liver surgery took part in the trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best fluid management approach during liver surgery to reduce complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The study compares two strategies but does not test a new drug or treatment.
