Puzzle your way to a sharper recovery? new trial tests Pre-Surgery brain training
NCT ID NCT07655414
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a coach-supported, online brain training program before elective surgery can help older adults recover their thinking skills faster. Researchers will enroll 103 people aged 60 and older who are waiting for surgery. The main goal is to see if participants stick with the program, not yet to measure if it works.
What this could mean

Active substance
cognitive training program (Lumosity) with coaching
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, home-based way to protect thinking skills before surgery and speed up recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot trial focused on feasibility, not on proving the program works. The results may not apply to all surgeries or people.
