New Bandage-Sized sensor could replace bulky scans for hydrocephalus monitoring
NCT ID NCT05546996
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new wireless sensor called FlowSense, which is placed on the skin like a bandage to measure fluid flow in hydrocephalus patients with external drains. The goal is to see if it can accurately track drainage and pressure without needing X-rays or hospital equipment. Only 24 participants are being enrolled, and the study is exploratory, meaning it's too early to know if the device will work in everyday care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
FlowSense device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, wireless way to monitor shunt function in hydrocephalus patients, reducing hospital visits and imaging.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early exploratory study (24 participants) not designed to prove effectiveness. The device may not work reliably in all patients.
