Which tooth sealant holds up best on fragile molars? a Head-to-Head test
NCT ID NCT07732790
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests two types of fissure sealants—a standard resin-based one and a newer giomer-based one—on first permanent molars affected by molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH), a condition that leaves enamel weak and prone to decay. Researchers will apply the sealants to children aged 6 to 12 and check them over time for retention, decay, and other signs of failure. The goal is to see which sealant protects these vulnerable teeth better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- fissure sealants (resin-based and giomer-based)
- What this could lead to
- If one sealant type proves more durable, it could offer a better way to protect vulnerable molars in children with MIH, reducing future decay.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 22 children, so results may not apply broadly. Both sealants may perform similarly, or one may fail more often.
