Fish allergy cure? new trial tests codfish therapy in kids
NCT ID NCT05590299
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving children with fish allergy small, increasing doses of codfish protein (oral immunotherapy) can help them tolerate fish without reactions. 70 children aged 2 to 10 will receive either codfish or a placebo for 12 months, then be tested for desensitisation and sustained unresponsiveness. The goal is to reduce the risk of accidental allergic reactions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
codfish protein (oral immunotherapy)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a way for children with fish allergy to safely eat fish without severe reactions, reducing fear of accidental exposure.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with only 70 children, so results may not apply to everyone. Oral immunotherapy can cause allergic reactions during treatment, and long-term tolerance is not guaranteed.
