Glowing dye could help surgeons spot hidden brain cancer

NCT ID NCT07609472

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests a single dose of FG001, a fluorescent dye, in 76 adults with newly diagnosed high-grade glioma. The dye is given before surgery and glows under a special light, helping surgeons tell tumor from healthy tissue during removal. The study checks how well the dye works and how much tumor is removed, with follow-up for six months after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

FG001 (a fluorescent dye that glows under near-infrared light to help surgeons see tumor tissue)

What this could lead to

If it works, FG001 could help surgeons remove more of the tumor during surgery, potentially improving outcomes for people with high-grade glioma.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase trial with only 76 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The dye is new and may not clearly distinguish tumor from healthy tissue in all cases.
