Women's hormones may change how cannabis feels

NCT ID NCT07417059

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how natural changes in female sex hormones during the menstrual cycle affect the way women feel and think after using cannabis. Researchers will give 21 women a set dose of THC (the active part of cannabis) or a placebo at different points in their cycle. They will measure mood, thinking, and physical responses to see if hormone levels make a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Cannabis (THC)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help explain why women respond differently to cannabis at different times of their menstrual cycle.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage observational study with only 21 participants, so results may not apply to all women. It is not testing a treatment.
