Timing of feeding tube may protect muscle mass in esophageal cancer patients

NCT ID NCT06712706

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at 60 people with advanced esophageal cancer who are getting chemotherapy or radiation before surgery to remove the cancer. Some patients had a feeding tube placed early, at the time of diagnosis, while others had it placed later during surgery. The goal is to see if early feeding tube use helps prevent muscle loss (sarcopenia), which is linked to worse outcomes. Researchers will measure muscle mass at three points: diagnosis, before surgery, and six months after surgery.
