Poop pills could tame IBD: new study tests gut bacteria therapy
NCT ID NCT07149441
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study looked at whether taking capsules containing healthy donor gut bacteria (fecal transplant) can help people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who haven't gotten better with standard treatments. 94 adults with mild-to-moderate Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis received either standard biologic therapy alone or combined with the bacterial capsules for 8 weeks. Researchers tracked symptom scores and colon healing for a year to see if the transplant improved remission rates and reshaped the gut microbiome.
