Stool test strategy aims to prevent UC Flare-Ups
NCT ID NCT07402135
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using stool biomarkers (fecal calprotectin and fecal immunochemical test) to guide treatment adjustments can prevent relapses in people with ulcerative colitis. About 240 adults in remission will be randomly assigned to either biomarker-guided therapy or usual care. The goal is to see if early treatment changes based on stool test results can reduce the risk of flare-ups, hospitalizations, or surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Fecal biomarker-guided therapy escalation (procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help doctors adjust treatment earlier based on stool test results, potentially preventing flare-ups and reducing hospitalizations.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage strategy trial with no direct treatment benefit. The approach may not improve outcomes over usual care, and the open-label design could introduce bias.
