Fever breathing study may unlock seizure mystery
NCT ID NCT01906619
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looked at how fever affects breathing in 100 children, half of whom had febrile seizures. Researchers measured body temperature, breathing rate, and carbon dioxide levels while the children slept. The goal was to see if rapid breathing during fever causes a drop in CO2 that might trigger seizures. Results could lead to new ways to stop febrile seizures using carbon dioxide.
