Can Role-Play help diabetics master their glucose monitor? small study says maybe.
NCT ID NCT03956927
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether simulation (a kind of role-play) can help adults with insulin-dependent diabetes learn to use the Freestyle Libre glucose monitor. Twenty-seven patients who had already completed a standard education program took part. The goal was to see if simulation is practical and acceptable to patients and caregivers, not to measure health improvements. Results will guide whether a larger trial is worth doing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
simulation-based therapeutic patient education
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that simulation is a useful way to teach diabetes self-management skills, potentially improving patient education programs.
What could go wrong
This is a very small feasibility study with only 27 participants. It does not test health outcomes, only whether the approach is practical and acceptable. Results may not apply to other settings or patient groups.
