Fat graft may keep Dupuytren's disease from returning after surgery
NCT ID NCT05067764
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Dupuytren's disease causes fingers to bend inward, making hand use difficult. This study compares standard surgery (aponeurectomy) alone versus surgery plus a fat graft taken from the patient's arm. Researchers will track 172 adults for 2 years to see if the fat graft reduces the chance of the disease coming back.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
adipose tissue (fat) graft
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple way to reduce the chance of Dupuytren's coming back after surgery, helping people keep hand function longer.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial. The fat graft may not lower recurrence rates, and there are risks like infection or graft failure. Results may not apply to everyone.
