Waking up right after heart surgery: could it be better?

NCT ID NCT07518524

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two anesthesia approaches for heart surgery: Fast Track (waking up within 6 hours) and Ultra Fast Track (waking up right in the operating room). The goal is to see which method leads to fewer lung problems, less pain, and a shorter hospital stay. About 50 adults having certain types of heart surgery will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Fast Track Cardiac Anesthesia (FTCA) and Ultra Fast Track Cardiac Anesthesia (UFTCA) procedures
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that waking up from anesthesia right after heart surgery is safer and leads to a shorter hospital stay.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. There is also a risk of complications from early extubation.
