Can a gentle touch unfreeze shoulders? new trial tests fascial therapy

NCT ID NCT07163884

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding fascial therapy (a type of hands-on tissue manipulation) to standard electrotherapy can improve pain, movement, and joint awareness in people with frozen shoulder. Thirty-six adults aged 35-60 will be split into two groups: one gets only electrotherapy, the other gets electrotherapy plus five sessions of fascial therapy. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure changes in shoulder tissues and standard tests for pain and motion.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
fascial therapy (manual mobilization) plus electrotherapy (TENS, hotpack, ultrasound)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-drug, non-surgical way to ease pain and improve shoulder movement in people with frozen shoulder.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage trial (36 people) with no blinding or placebo group, so results may not be reliable or apply to everyone. The therapy is manual and depends on the therapist's skill.
